Panic at the Disco
Pretty. Odd.
Release: March 25, 2008
I would say that Panic at the Disco is a guilty pleasure of mine but the truth is I can’t deny how hooked I was on their debut release “A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out.” I became an instant fan of the band, and when I learned they were recording a new album I was curious to see what they would change. I would have been happy if they released a CD similar to “A Fever…” but musicians love to “progress” so I was prepared for some things to change.
When you first grab Panic at the Disco’s new album you’ll notice something a little bit different. The four piece emo/pop group has dropped the ! from their name. However, the change in punctuation is nothing compared to the drastic change of sound on this disc. Apparently the Panic boys grew tired of the upbeat electric vibe their last CD had and opted to adapt a much more subdued sound on their latest offering.
Pretty.Odd. sounds like an album that was written years ago, by a band that some of you may heard of, the Beatles. Not saying that’s a bad thing, but I was a little bit disappointed with the direction the boys decided to take. There are still a couple of fun songs on the CD like the first two singles “Nine In The Afternoon” and “That Green Gentleman (Things Have Changed)” but if you’re looking for the Panic at the Disco you fell in love with on “A fever…” this is definitely not the place to look for it.
