Epic Week concludes today with a look at Alexander
This weekend on AMC is the debut of Alexander, and to mark this occasion BEER.COM presents EPIC WEEK. Today concludes EPIC WEEK, so make sure you check out Alexander on AMC this weekend!
…And today we wrap-up Epic Week with the film that spawned this whole Epic Event of Epic Proportions - Alexander. This 2004 masterpiece starring Colin Farrell, Angelina Jolie, Val Kilmer, Anthony Hopkins, Jared Leto and a very topless Rosario Dawson and directed by legendary director Oliver Stone not only has an Epic cast, but an Epic Scale.
Before I get in to what makes Alexander so monumental I've got to address one thing that several readers brought up - "Why no 300, Creep?" Well 300 and Alexander cover very much the same ground - outnumbered forces defeat the Persian Empire. I wanted to cover plenty of different points in time - from ancient Rome to the futuristic reaches of Space.
The story of Alexander is a classic one; Alexander was the King of Macedonia, and one of the greatest military leaders of all time - he defeated the Persian army with a vastly outnumbered army (I get the feeling that the Persians weren't the greatest Warriors).
The tale spans Alexander's life, from childhood till death - his tutelage with Aristotle, his life with mother Olympias, his relationship with childhood friend Hephaistion, and his relationship with his wife Roxanna, as well as his conquering of all of Asia and parts of the Middle East.
The epic battle, the betrayal, the power held by one man - all of it SCREAMS a masterwork of Epic Proportions, including the weakness that all great men have - relationships.
Overall it's a haunting tale of a rise to power of one of the greatest military minds every - the story of the great King Alexander.

If you want to see this great flick in its entire entirety, Alexander is on AMCSaturday June 21st!
